15 people killed as Israeli strike hit Gaza UN school

The Health Ministry in Hamas-run Gaza said at least 15 people were killed on Saturday when a United Nations school sheltering thousands of displaced Palestinians was hit by an Israeli strike.

An estimated 1.4 million people have been displaced in four weeks of war, out of the territory’s 2.4 million residents, with many crammed into schools or hospitals.

The Health Ministry said on Saturday that at least 9,488 people had been killed across Gaza since Israel started pounding the territory on October 7.

The majority of the victims were said to be civilians.

The strikes came in retaliation for attacks the same day on Israel by Hamas militants in which some 1,400 people were killed, with victims also mostly civilians, according to Israeli officials, who vowed to destroy Hamas.

The Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra, in a press conference, noted, “The massacre at the Al-Fakhura school committed by the occupation (Israel) this morning left 15 martyrs and 70 wounded,”

The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees said its school was being used as a “shelter for displaced families”.

“At least one strike hit the schoolyard where there were tents for displaced families. Another strike hit inside the school where women were baking bread,” UNRWA said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Muslim scholars who converged on Kaduna, Saturday, have condemned the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine, declaring that it is a crime against inhumanity being committed by the Israeli.

The Muslim scholars, Prof. Abdullahi Danladi of Resource Forum Islamic Movement Nigeria, and Prof. Isa Hassan, a Professor of Building Engineering, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, noted that the genesis of the war had nothing to do with religious issues.

In their separate paper at a one-day conference on ‘Media Manipulation and Israeli War against Palestinians’ presented at the Arewa House, Kaduna, they traced the history of the first occupants of Gaza and West Bank.

The claimed that the Palestinians were the pioneer occupants long before the Israelites invaded and annexed parts of the land.
