Day 5: Protesters threaten showdown, demand business shutdown for Monday demonstration in Jos

A large group of demonstrators took to Bauchi Road on Sunday, demanding that local businesses either join their protest scheduled for Monday or close their doors in Jos, Plateau State.

The protestors are upset with President Bola Tinubu’s recent broadcast, which they believe failed to adequately address urgent national issues.

They plan to increase their numbers in the coming days to further voice their discontent and pressure the government.

The protesters, made up of both adults and youths, carried signs, branches, and various national flags as they moved through the streets, urging everyone to participate in the protest the following day.

Their primary grievances include the removal of the fuel subsidy and enhanced measures to address the country’s security concerns. President Tinubu, in his broadcast, defended the subsidy removal as a necessary step for economic progress, despite its unpopularity.

As of now, the demonstrations in Plateau have remained largely peaceful, with few reports of violence.
