Lasting solution to lingering Doko land dispute in view – Niger Gov Bago
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has assured of finding a solution to the lingering land dispute which has claimed lives and property in the Doko community.
He gave the assurance when he received a delegation from the Public Complainant Commission, PCC, led by its Federal Commissioner, Barr. Bala Mohammed, in Minna, the state capital.
Decrying the havoc caused in the community over the farmland dispute, he assured of his administration’s commitment to nipping it in the bud.
Responding to the concerns raised about the activities of the Niger State Transport Management Agency, NSTMA, Bago explained that terms of reference for the Agency and other relevant departments under the Ministry of Transport will be provided to avoid conflict as his government will not condone insubordination and indiscipline.
On the issue of giving waiver on government land, the Governor noted, “The era of land waiver is gone. We will strengthen land administration in the state and use it for the common good of the people”.
He commended the judiciary and Nigeria Police Force for supporting the PCC in carrying out its national assignment while assuring that all the issues raised will be given quick and needed attention.
Earlier, Mohammed listed some disturbing complaints received by the commission, including the farmland dispute in Doko, high handedness of staff of NSTMA, the plight of pensioners, the leadership tussle leading to the unauthorized allocation of shops at the Kure Ultra Modern Market Minna and the rehabilitation of link road to the market among others.
He states, “the Commission which serves as a ombudsman is willing to partner with the present administration for effective governance. The Commission now has a police detachment as its enforcement unit just as the Judiciary has also allocated two courts to hear cases coming from the commission”.
