Maguire exit deal may collapse as West Ham reportedly identify option
Harry Maguire could be set to stay at Manchester United this summer despite the club accepting a bid from West Ham United.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, talks have hit a roadblock due to a lack of agreement over personal terms.
Consequently, Maguire could now decide to stay at Old Trafford and continue to fight for his place under Erik ten Hag, though he currently falls behind the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and, at times, Luke Shaw in the pecking order.
The Irons are reportedly lining up alternatives in case the deal falls through after their £30 million bid was accepted by United. Bayer Leverkusen’s Odilon Kossounou is an option on the shortlist.
Maguire, 31, would then see out the remaining two years on his Red Devils contract, which sees him earn £190,000 per week.
It really seemed like the best move for all parties if Maguire made the switch to West Ham. Game time will be incredibly limited yet again this season, following on from a campaign in which he made just eight Premier League starts.
Gareth Southgate will also be keeping a watchful eye on the defender’s situation; the Euro 2024 tournament is on the horizon and England have hot competition for the starting centre-back role. Should Maguire spend another term warming the bench, he could quickly fall in the manager’s estimations when it comes to naming his squad.
