Amusan not guilty of any offence, AIU clears her as Budapest 2023 begins tomorrow

World record holder Tobi Amusan has been cleared to defend her title at the Budapest 2023 World Athletics Championships which begin tomorrow in Hungary.

Amusan was provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for missing three out of competition tests (OCT) this year and Amusan vowed to defend herself when she faces a panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, just a few days to the kick-off of the championships in Budapest.

In a statement issued yesterday by AIU on its website, a panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, has found the Nigerian sprinter not guilty of any offence while her suspension was immediately lifted.

“A panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, has today found that Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period.

“AIU Head Brett Clothier has indicated the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) is disappointed by this decision and will review the reasoning in detail before deciding whether to exercise its right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within the applicable deadline.

“The decision is currently confidential but will be published in due course. Amusan’s provisional suspension has now been lifted with immediate effect,” the statement stated.

Amusan is one of Nigeria’s medal hopefuls in Budapest and she is expected to defend the title she won in Oregon, United States in the women’s 110m hurdles.
