Defence House visit: It’s time for governance, Makinde tells Tinubu
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, paid a courtesy visit to the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, at the Defence House on Friday.
The development came two months after the former Lagos State governor, whom they both supported, was declared the winner of the presidential election.
Shortly after their arrival, the duo had a closed-door meeting with the President-elect along with the Chairman of Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu; his counterpart in Jigawa State, Abubakar Badaru, and former governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi.
Addressing journalists after their discussion, the two G-5 governors said they came to pay homage to Tinubu following his victory at the poll.
They also called on Nigerians to look beyond the 2023 election and throw their weight behind Tinubu, whom they said could turn around the fortune of the country after the May 29 inauguration.
Makinde, who pledged his support for the incoming administration, said, “I have come to pay homage to the President-elect and to tell him that elections are over and it is time for governance. We will do our best to give him the support for good governance.”

Wike also said, “Elections are gone and a winner has emerged, therefore all Nigerians must rally round and give him (Tinubu) the necessary support. Everybody is waiting for May 29 to see that the President-elect is inaugurated and he hits the ground running to make sure that Nigerians get what they expected. I have confidence that he (Tinubu) has what it takes to turn Nigeria around. I have confidence in him.”
