Intelligence lapses responsible for destructions of Kano infrastructures – Sanusi
The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has said intelligence lapses on the part of security operatives were responsible for attacks leading to destruction of infrastructures in the state by hoodlums who hijacked the August 1st nationwide protests.
The Monarch made this known during an on the spot visit to the Digital Industrial Park of the Nigerian Communication Commission, NCC and Kano State Printing press, the oldest printing press in Northern Nigeria vandalized during the August 1st nationwide protest.
Sanusi who condemned the destructions, said the security operatives were notified that the printing press was a target spot but failed to act on the intelligence report.
The Emir also expressed dismay over the destruction of the NCC facility billed for commissioning yesterday (Wednesday) and expected to train and create jobs for about 3 million youths but was vandalized.
He cautioned the youths to steer clear and not to be deceived by the enemies into destroying infrastructures in the state which will impact positively on their lives while their children were studying in abroad.
The Emir, however, said attacks on the infrastructure were calculated attempt to destroy Kano and ensure backwardness of the state while saying all enemies of the state won’t succeed.
In his words: “The facility (NCC) was supposed to have been commissioned today, Wednesday and to train about 3 million youths to gain ICT jobs but it was destroyed.
“All those who gave you money to act out these vandalization against the state, their children are studying outside the country.
“We are highly touched with what had happened to the NCC, but we are assured that Federal Government would soon rebuild the place, but we urged Kano youths to shun every negative tendencies that was targeted at them,” he said.
At the vandalized Kano State printing press, the Monarch said, “As we used to say, whoever had a hand in this is an enemy of Kano and he is an enemy to it’s people.
“What happened in Kano whoever saw them knew were planned. Kano was billed to be destroyed but we pray that God will not let them succeed.
“Before this happened, the security operatives were notified in writing that the facility is targeted but instead of preventing it, it was allowed to happen. Whoever did good knows, whoever did bad knows and they all will see their result. We pray that God gives the government opportunity to return it.
“My grandfather had worked here (Kano printing press). It was sad that a place like this is destroyed by their grandchildren.
“I swear to Almighty God those bent on destroying Kano will not succeed and God willing the way they saw Kano they will leave it like that,” the 16th Emir, Sanusi II said.
Speaking at the NCC park, the State Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Mohammed Tajo Othman, hinted that the Minister of Science and Technology has promised him that soon the park will be rebuilt.
Meanwhile, the 16th Emir, Sanusi II was conducted round the vandalized facility by the Kano State Commissioner of Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye.
