Man United confirm Rashford out for ‘a few games’ with injury

Manchester United confirmed star forward Marcus Rashford will miss the next few weeks with an injury. The England international limped off of the pitch holding his groin late in the club’s 2-0 victory against Everton at the weekend. United are set to play Sevilla in a Europa League quarterfinal first leg on Thursday. Then, they travel to Nottingham Forest on Sunday in a Premier League matchup.

“The forward was withdrawn in the 80th minute of Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League win over Everton at Old Trafford and immediately headed to the dressing room for treatment,” the Red Devils said in a club statement on Wednesday.

“Subsequent assessment of the injury suggested that Marcus will be unavailable for a few games, but is expected to be back for the season run-in.”

Rashford is club’s main source of goals

The injury will be a blow to the team’s offensive output. Rashford has 28 total goals on the season and has yet to miss a top flight match during the campaign. This includes a stretch of 20 goals in his last 28 total appearances. His 15 Premier League goals are 34% of the team’s total output in the competition.

Nevertheless, manager Erik ten Hag believes his team can cope without their star. “We have many more players across the squad who can score,” stated ten Hag. “I think we have players like Bruno, like Jadon Sancho, like Anthony Martial, like Scott McTominay, like Antony. We have enough players with the capabilities to score goals, definitely.”

Rashford injury puts doubt on huge United matches in April

Despite Rashford’s impressive goalscoring record, United are hanging on to fourth place in the Premier League table. The Red Devils currently have a three-point advantage over Tottenham Hotspur. However, United have also played a one less match than the north London outfit.

While it remains to be seen exactly how long Rashford will be sidelined for, the club hopes it won’t be too long. United’s schedule gets a bit tougher in the coming weeks. They play Brighton in an FA Cup semifinal on the 23rd and then face Spurs in a massive matchup four days later.
