Nigerian-made military equipment ready soon – Minister

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mattawalle, has announced that the Federal Government would soon provide the military with modern equipment to effectively fight banditry and Boko Haram insurgency.

Addressing journalists in his hometown Maradun, the minister said the Federal Government had already directed the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria, Kaduna to commence production of military equipment and hardware.

He said the industry would undergo total transformation to meet international standards, adding that, “President Bola Tinubu has just signed a bill to that effect.”

Matawalle further explained that when fully operational as directed by the President, the corporation would manufacture all the equipment needed by the military in terms of weaponry and hardware to fight all forms of criminalities in the country.

He added that he had inspected all the military equipment provided by the Federal Government to security personnel, especially the Army formations across the country.

Matawalle gave the assurance that with this development, the issue of banditry would soon be a thing of the past.

He added that he had visited Turkey to inspect some of the military equipment ordered by Nigeria to sustain the fight against banditry and other criminalities in the country.

“Some of the equipment has already arrived in Nigeria.

“The present administration of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu is poised to ensure that the military gets modern equipment to help them carry out their jobs with utmost ease,” the defence minister said.

Matawalle said very soon the defence headquarters would undertake a tour of all the theatre commands in the country with a view to assessing their needs and requirements for effective operation and service delivery.

He appealed to the security agencies to reciprocate the government’s gesture by strategising toward ending insurgency and banditry.

“Let me use this medium to call on the security agencies to reciprocate the government’s gesture by becoming more alive to their responsibilities in the fight against all forms of criminalities.

“I am calling on members of the general public to please assist the security personnel with useful information that will help in the fight against banditry and other criminal activities,” he said.
