1. President Bola Tinubu has claimed the option of military intervention in Niger Republic will not be considered until all diplomatic options are exhausted. Tinubu stated this on Thursday, while receiving the leadership of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) at the State House.
2. Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, on Wednesday, expressed concern over the ethnic and religious divisions in Kaduna State. He also lamented that all government actions or inactions were viewed from the lenses of religion and ethnicity.
3. The House of Representatives on Thursday vowed to involve the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the owner of the bank account allegedly being used to extort vice chancellors of federal universities. Yusuf Gagdi, the chairman of the ad-hoc committee investigating job racketeering and mismanagement of the Integrated Personnel Payment Information System (IPPIS) by Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), disclosed this during the resumed investigative hearing.
4. The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has suspended the controversial Nigeria Air Project and airport concessions embarked upon by the immediate-past president, Muhammadu Buhari. Keyamo, on his maiden visit and a tour of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, suspended all plans and arrangements concerning the proposed national carrier, Nigeria Air.
5. The Rivers State Police Command on Monday, August 28, neutralised a suspected kidnap kingpin in Choba, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area. According to the State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Nwonyi Emeka, a victim (name withheld) was kidnapped on Friday, August 5, around the Choba axis, and a ransom of two million naira was initially paid by his family before his release on Monday, August 28.
6. The owner of the social media platform X, Elon Musk, has announced plans to add video and audio call features to the app. In announcing the development on Thursday, Musk disclosed that the new features will not require the use of a mobile number.
7. The Court of Appeal on Thursday granted the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Delta, Ken Pela, approval to return to the Delta State Election Tribunal to continue his petition against Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. With the Appeal judgment, Ken Pela will return to the tribunal panel sitting at Delta to continue his case.
8. Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has moved to investigate the unlawful dismissal of five staff of the State Polytechnic, Ikot-Osurua in Ikot-Ekpene Local Government Area. This was sequel to the petition submitted by the sacked workers to the Chairman, House Committee on Justice, Judiciary, Human Rights and Public Petitions, Hon. Aniefiok Attah and read at the plenary on Thursday, August 31.
9. The police command in Imo State has reportedly killed two suspected kidnappers and rescued their victim along Umuezorokam-Avu in Owerri West Local Government Area. The command also recovered one locally-made cut-to-size gun, two cutlasses, and charms in their possession.
10. The draw for the 2023–2024 Champions League group stage has been confirmed. The event took place in Monaco, France, on Thursday evening.
