Why Gov Akeredolu is working from Ibadan – Ondo Govt

Doyin Odebowale, the Special Adviser on Special Duty and Strategy to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, has said that his principal is not working from the capital, Akure, due to accommodation challenges.

Odebowale said this in an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday.

Akeredolu has been absent from the state since his return from a medical vacation abroad.

The Ondo leader has been working from Ibadan, Oyo State and the move has caused ripples within the state, with the youths of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, issuing an ultimatum to the governor to return.

Odebowale said due to Governor Akeredolu‘s state of health, he needed a better apartment to carry out his task of marshalling the affairs of the South-West state.

“Aketi came back in September. Where he used to stay – the Presidential Lodge built for the visiting president at that time Olusegun Obasanjo – is a two-bedroom apartment,” he said on the show.

“Now, he is back. He cannot occupy that place again. The Old Governor’s Office – the Governor’s Lodge built by the previous administration is now the office of the investment outlet called the ODIPA. That’s the office,” the governor’s aide added.

“So, the governor has been managing a two-bedroom apartment for six years. But his current state of health would not permit him to pretend that all is well.

“He would need all the things for him to recover properly. That’s why the new place that is being arranged for him is almost completed.

“When they say they want to see Aketi, do they want to see him at the site so that he would be carrying cement or following workmen?

“What exactly? The civil servants have been paid all their salaries. Aketi has been signing laws since he came back,” he maintained.

Court stops Ondo deputy governor’s impeachment over alleged misconduct

A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, restrained the Ondo State House of Assembly from impeaching the Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, over alleged gross misconduct.

Justice Emeka Nwite, gave the ruling shortly after Aiyedatiwa’s counsel, Kayode Adewusi, moved the ex-parte motion to the effect.

The judge also restrained Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu from nominating a new deputy governor and forwarding same to the lawmakers for approval pending the hearing and determination of the substantive matter.

Justice Nwite held that after listening to Adewusi, he was of the view that the interest of justice would be met by granting the application.

“Therefore, the application of the applicant succeeds,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the embattled deputy governor had, in a motion on notice marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1294/2023, sued the Inspector-General (I-G) of Police and the Department of State Services (DSS).

Others are Gov. Akeredoku, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Chief Judge of Ondo State and the House of Assembly as 1st to 6th respondents respectively.

In the application dated and filed by Mr Adelanke Akinrata on Sept. 21, Aiyedatiwa sought for four reliefs.

The judge further made an order of interim injunction restraining Akeredolu, his servants or privies from harassing, intimidating, embarrassing and preventing Aiyedatiwa in carrying out the functions of his office as deputy governor of Ondo State.

Justice Nwite, who granted all the reliefs, adjourned the matter until Oct. 9 for hearing.

Aiyedatiwa had, also in another suit marked: AK/348/2023 prayed the High Court in Akure to stop the state’s House of Assembly from proceeding with the impeachment proceedings against him pending the hearing and determination of the suit filed in the court on Monday.

Impeachment: Please forgive Aiyedatiwa, ex-Afenifere scribe begs Akeredolu

A former Secretary General of Afenifere, Bashorun Seinde Arogbofa, has appealed to Ondo state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to forgive his didn’teputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, if the latter has done any wrong.

Arogbofa called on well-meaning Ondo citizens to rise up and quench ‘this gathering storm whose full explosion will not be healthy for the state.’

In a statement issued in Akure, Arogbofa said the founding fathers of the state would not be happy to see the current storm consume the state.

Arogbofa said the occasional cold war between “some of our governors and their deputies have exacerbated the socio-economic and political of their domains.”

He said: “My fear, nay our fear, is that the present gathering political storm between the governor and his deputy arising from alleged disloyalty, if not checked or properly handled, will lead to very bad blood, developmental set back, disruptive tendencies within the polity, and, in turn, have their unhealthy backlash on the civil service and the welfare of the common man.

“We don’t want this to happen. Indeed, the fragile economic and security situations in the country demand that it is better for the executive, the legislature and the judiciary in Ondo state to come nearer together and see how they can make the life of the people better.

“The issue on ground needs a careful handling so as not to lead to any major crisis. Therefore, our Honourable members should remember they have their names to protect in whatever they do. They should be mindful of the verdict of history. We therefore call on them for fair play and justice to arrest the gathering storm.

“I know Arakunrin to be a good Christian. Let him forgive anyone who might have done anything wrong against him or against his office. Let him remember that except the Almighty God wants it, nobody can take the life of another person. God holds the key of life. So let him not glorify or flatter any perceived enemy who may be said to be after him.”

Ondo crisis deepens as Assembly begins impeachment process against Deputy gov

Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the controversial deputy governor of Ondo state, may be impeached shortly by the state House of Assembly for suspected egregious misconduct.

According to a trustworthy source, some parliamentarians have signed the impeachment notice against the deputy governor.

The presence of strong security forces at the Assembly gate on Tuesday was an indication of this, as was an emergency plenary session called by the assembly leadership.

Source told newsmen that the deputy governor is under investigation for alleged gross misuse of office.

It was alleged that Aiyedatiwa while he was the acting governor, following the medical vacation of the governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, he reportedly approved N300 million for the purchase of a bulletproof SUV for his personal use.

Recall that the governor travelled to Germany for medical treatment for three months.

Aiyedatiwa was alleged to have ordered the N300 million to be sourced from the Palliative fund, which was from the Federal government to the state in order to cushion the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy.

Recall that the governor had sacked all the media aides attached to the deputy governor over alleged insubordination.

Rumours of the underground plot to impeach the deputy governor were rife after the sack of his aides by the governor.

However, this development was coming days after the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, dismissed that there was a plot to impeach the deputy governor.

Oladiji said that ” there’s no underground plot to impeach the deputy governor.

” There is nothing like that, you know the social media can write anything they like, but it is not true.

” Nothing like that is going on. As I am talking to you, I’m in Abuja for the Speakers’ conference. So, there is nothing like that.”

Corroborating the Speaker, the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Mr Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, said the rumour should be ignored.

“Nobody is plotting any move to impeach the deputy governor.

” We are busy with what will bring development to the state. What is of importance to us is to carry out our duties.

Recall that a few days after the sack of the deputy governor’s aides, his resignation letter went viral on social media.

But in a swift response, the deputy governor denied resigning his position.

Aiyedatiwa in a statement issued and personally signed by him in Akure, the state capital, denied a purported pre-signed resignation letter said to be circulating in the public domain.

According to him ” My attention has been drawn to a rumour of a purported pre-signed
resignation letter, signed by me, being circulated in the public domain.

“I wish to state that I, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Deputy Governor of Ondo
State have not, do not intend and will not sign/author any letter resigning my position as the duly elected Deputy Governor in a joint ticket with my principal the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN,CON.

” I took an oath the day I was sworn in along with Mr. Governor on February
24th, 2021 to protect the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on a
four (4) year mandate which terminates in February 23rd, 2025.

” I remain loyal to my Principal and I stand by the oath I took with the Bible to run the full cycle of the four year tenure with Mr. Governor.

He added that ” To this end I urge the people of Ondo State, the State Assembly and the general public to disregard such letter now and in the future.

The Chairman, House committee on information, Hon.Olatunji Oshati Emmanuel, could not be reached for comment as the plenary was still on as at the time of filling in the report.

Also, government officials kept mum on the development in the assembly.

Aides to the deputy governor denied the allegation of the purchase of vehicle by their boss while acting as the deputy governor.

According to one of his aides, ” they’re are just looking for excuses. But they will fail because they’ve always failed in all their efforts to bring the deputy governor down.

I remain loyal to Akeredolu, says deputy

The Ondo State deputy governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Tuesday, reiterated his loyalty to his boss and state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu.

Aiyedatiwa said some reports making the rounds in recent times about his purported disloyalty to his boss were lies and aimed at causing disaffection between him and the governor.

The deputy governor stated this on Tuesday in a statement through his media aide, Mr. Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson. The statement was titled, ‘The fabricated lies against the deputy governor of Ondo State: the blackmailers are at it again.’

According to the statement, the reports were spread by some faceless groups and individuals in the state to soil his image for political reasons.

The statement read, “We need to remind the public that this is a continuation of the blackmail started by these same characters some months ago, with false stories planted in some media outlets against the deputy governor. However, since those lies did not yield the result they envisaged, the blackmailers have returned with fake stories about disloyalty, aimed at causing disaffection between him and the governor.

“These faceless individuals who have been hiding their identities because what they are putting out are pure fabrications, are being sponsored by those who are threatened by the profile of the deputy governor, his relationship with his boss, and the goodwill he enjoys with the people.

“Many stakeholders have commended the deputy governor for the way he handled state affairs while he was Acting Governor, despite all his detractors did to provoke him into taking drastic actions. He avoided their booby traps and they tripped on their own banana peels.”

The statement also declared that the deputy governor was in constant touch with his principal on official state matters and there was no gap between them.

“Now that Mr. Governor is back and has started working, the deputy governor remains calm and committed to the duties of his office and unruffled by the lies of desperate politicians and their agents. The deputy governor remains loyal to his principal and no amount of fabricated lies will change that,” the statement submitted.

Like Obaseki, Akeredolu moves against deputy gov, sacks media aides

Like his counterpart, Edo State Governor Obaseki, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State on Tuesday moved against his deputy, Lucky Ayedatiwa, following the termination of the appointments of his media aides.

The governor’s action comes amid an apparent internal conflict between him and his deputy.

In a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, the affected aides were directed to submit all government properties in their possession to the acting Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor.

The affected aides include Press Secretary to the Governor, Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson; Special Assistant to the Governor (New Media), Oladipupo Okunniga; and Special Assistant to the Governor (Photography), Abayomi Adefolalu.

The statement reads in parts: “Similarly, the press crew attached to the office of the deputy governor has been disbanded. Consequently, all members of the press crew are to report back to their various ministries and stations.

“Equally, the Ministry of Information and Orientation is directed to provide adequate coverage for the activities of the deputy governor’s office henceforth.”

The termination of the media aides’ appointment highlights the escalating tension between Akeredolu and Ayedatiwa.

According to sources, the decision to sack Ayedatiwa’s media aides was due to news reports allegedly being orchestrated against the governor.

One of the sources who spoke anonymously with DAILY POST alleged that the deputy governor’s media team had fueled controversy involving both men, particularly when Akeredolu was on medical leave in Germany.
