Tinubu appoints Governing Councils for federal varsities, others

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed new Governing Councils for Federal universities and tertiary institutions across the country.

The appointments, announced Wednesday in a statement by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, aim to strengthen the management and oversight of these institutions.

The appointees include notable Nigerians with expertise in various fields, who are expected to perform their functions effectively and within their statutory responsibilities.

The institutions affected by the appointments include Nigerian Maritime University, Nigerian University of Science and Technology, Federal University of Agriculture, Federal University of Health Sciences, and others.

According to the statement, the President expects the new governing councils to drive excellence and innovation in these institutions, promoting quality education and research for national development.

The appointees are expected to bring their expertise and experience to bear in ensuring that these institutions achieve their mandates.

he full list of appointees was released by the State House with Temi Harriman appointed as Chairman of the Governing Council of Nigerian Maritime University, while Rabe Mudi Bala was appointed as Chairman of the Governing Council of Nigerian University of Science and Technology.

Other appointees include Bram Baifa, Ahmadu Barau Banye Salisu, and Habib Mohammed Ibrahim, among others.

The statement said the appointments take effect immediately, with the President expecting the new governing councils to hit the ground running.

Nigerian University of Science and Technology, Abuja: Rabe Mudi Bala — Chairman; Mr. Akinola Fagbemi — Member; Rakiatou Bagnou — Member; Alwel Egwurugu — Member; Femi Osabinu — Member.

“Federal University of Agriculture, Bassam-Biri, Bayelsa: Bram Baifa — Chairman; Richard Odigbo — Member; Yomi Johnson — Member; Fatima Owuna — Member; Christy Akpehuan Omoruyi — Member.

“Federal University of Health Sciences, Kwale, Delta State: Ahmadu Barau Banye Salisu — Chairman; Aragbaye Oluwatosin Gbolagunte — Member; Talba Bauchi — Member; Akaninodo Kehinde Adekunle — Member; Chibuike Ikenga — Member.

“The President expects that the new members of the governing boards of these institutions will perform their functions effectively and creditably and within the ambits of their statutory responsibilities,” the statement reads.
