Fuel subsidy: Tinubu to announce new minimum wage next week

Regarding the elimination of the fuel subsidy, Comrade Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), has provided information about the discussions held with the federal government.

A key meeting was held on Tuesday to explore the consequences of and address issues related to the loss of subsidies.

While briefing the media about the outcome of the meeting, Comrade Osifo mentioned a conversation the Minister of Labour had with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Finance Minister regarding a wage award. He shared, “The Minister of Labour informed us that he discussed the wage award issue with President Tinubu and the Finance Minister. However, the President advised them to further refine the details before making a public announcement.”

Osifo continued, “The Minister assured us that all related matters would be sorted out soon. However, due to the President’s travel commitments, he requested an additional two-week window. We, on our part, expressed our inability to wait for an extended period. After much deliberation, it was agreed that the President would make the necessary announcements next week.
