Ohanaeze moves Igbo Day celebration to restricted venue over fear of attack

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-cultural organisation has moved the location of its 2023 Igbo Day celebration to an undisclosed venue in Rivers State.

Factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said the venue was moved due to a planned attack.

This year’s Igbo Day celebration was scheduled to be held on September 29 at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

However, Isiguzoro said the event was moved to an undisclosed location to forestall a reportedly planned attack.

Speaking with DAILY POST on Thursday morning, Isiguzoro said: “The venue of this year’s Igbo day holding in Liberation Stadium has been moved to an undisclosed and restricted location in Rivers State.

“The change in venue followed security reports of a planned attack and disruption of the event. The latest development has been communicated to those affected.”
