Ondo monarch pledges support as NHRC, FIDA, NSCDC collaborate to mark 2023 Int’l Human Rights Day

In a show of solidarity against gender-based violence (SGBV), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Ondo State marked International Human Rights Day, 2023, with a resounding awareness rally. The focal point of the event was a visit to the palace of the Oba of Isinkan Kingdom, accompanied by an impactful rally to Isinkan Market in Akure.
This collaborative effort involved key partners, FIDA Nigeria Ondo Chapter, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command.
The tripartite delegation, consisting of the FIDA chairperson, NHRC State Coordinator, and the Human Rights Desk officer of the NSCDC, delivered compelling remarks. Their unified message echoed a plea for support from the traditional ruler in the collective fight against violence on women and girls in the community.
The FIDA chairperson further sought the endorsement of the Council of Traditional Rulers through the gracious assistance of the King in agency programs within the community.
In a gracious response, the King expressed gratitude for the delegation’s dedication to community service. He acknowledged the impactful work of the tripartite agency in the state capital, assuring them of his unwavering support for activism programs advocating justice and the eradication of violence against women and girls. The monarch pledged to facilitate a meeting with the council of traditional rulers in Akure to explore avenues for sensitization and training programs on SGBV in their domains.
The day concluded with a rally to Isinkan Market, where the vibrant exchange of ideas between the delegation and market participants laid the foundation for transformative change.
