Kano govt slashes school reg. fees by 50% for indigenes in State-owned tertiary institutions

The Kano State government has reduced the registration fees of government-owned tertiary institutions by 50 per cent for indigenes.

It should be recalled that the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr Yusuf Kofar Mata, made the disclosure on Monday while briefing newsmen.

According to the commissioner, the government took the decision, considering the economic hardship caused by the fuel subsidy removal, so as to alleviate the challenges of parents.

He said the reduction affects all Kano State indigenes studying regular courses for the 2023/2024 academic session at institutions, which include Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil; Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano; and Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education.

Others are Kano State Polytechnic, Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Danbatta, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso College of Advance and Remedial Studies, Tudun Wada, and Kano State College of Education.

He explained that the decision is in line with the state government’s commitment to the development of education.

Restating the state government’s commitment to education development, Kofar Mata noted that this can be seen in the restoration of foreign scholarships for over 1,000 students, which would be flagged off sooner rather than later.
